Electric Power R&D Company Seeks Project Manager for Distribution, PQ & Smart Grid area. (Knoxville, TN; Charlotte, NC; Palo Alto, CA)
The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) is looking for a Project Manager for the Distribution, PQ & Smart Grid area of its Power Delivery & Utilization sector. The project manager should have a broad understanding of electric utility power and distribution systems. The candidate will lead research efforts in utility power systems including advanced distribution systems and emerging smart grid research.
In This Position
Working at EPRI is truly a unique experience and EPRI project managers perform tasks outside of the “traditional” project management role. Along with your typical project management duties, you will:
- Apply technical knowledge to industry issues and gain input on needs from members and identify current and emerging technical issues
- Provide a technical service to EPRI customers and develops research or services opportunities of value to them that fit EPRI’s mission and capabilities. This will include solving customer problems, producing insights and information vital to members, and delivering information in a manner that members and customers can and will apply.
- Identify the most qualified internal and contractor team to complete the work. Selects contractors, frames statements of work. Directs the work of the team to assure technical and financial milestones are met.
- Provide assistance to the EPRI sales staff in Member Services and EPRI International.
- Maintain technical expertise and good national and international technical networks with manufacturers, consultants, academia and research organizations.
- Communicate strategies and results, written and verbal, to program membership and potential members through guidelines, reports, meetings, webcasts, workshops and conferences.
The Ideal Candidate
- Holds a bachelor’s or master’s in electrical engineering or power System engineering, power electronics, or automation systems (desired)
- Has a professional engineer’s license (desired)
- Possess significant experience with distribution system design and operation and SCADA systems, outage management systems, automated operation of distribution circuit components e. g. breakers, reclosers, capacitor banks, and voltage regulators.
- Is Familiar with substation automation
- Has knowledge of emerging international standards for communication architecture to support open-systems based automation, legacy communication systems now in use and trends in communication systems and advanced metering infrastructure
- Possess hands-on experience with utility distribution automation, including traditional distribution automation and trends in advanced distribution automation
- Has impeccable communication, wiring and presentation skills.
- Demonstrates project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
