The California Maritime Academy invites applications for multiple full-time lecturer positions in the following fields: Logistics and Supply Chain Management; Economics: Accounting and Finance: and Humanitarian Logistics.
Successful hires will teach in Cal Maritime’s undergraduate International Business and Logistics and Global Studies and Maritime Affairs programs, and will support Masters degree development initiatives on the campus in Engineering and Transportation Management (includes Humanitarian Logistics).
The BS Program in International Business and Logistics prepares students for careers in the global maritime industry and provides concentrations in logistics and international business. The BA Program in Global Studies and Maritime Affairs (GSMA) prepares students for maritime policy careers, and provides students with academic and practical training in the fields of global maritime security, international maritime trade and economics, international maritime organizations and maritime environmental issues. The proposed Masters degree will prepare early to mid-career professionals seeking advanced levels of responsibility in engineering management, transportation, and humanitarian logistics.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach introductory and advanced undergraduate courses in the candidate’s area of expertise
Develop undergraduate courses relevant to: a) candidate’s areas of research and scholarly expertise, and b) the needs of the International Business and Logistics and GSMA programs;
Participate in the maritime policy and international business and logistics initiatives of the California Maritime Academy;
Academic advising;
Participate in the summer training cruise on the Training Ship Golden Bear, as required and determined by program needs;
Institutional responsibilities associated with the major including (but not limited to): program and course assessment, grants, campus and CSU committee service, and developing and defining internship opportunities for students.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Masters degree and significant professional experience at a senior level in the fields of logistics and supply chain management, economics, accounting and finance, or humanitarian logistics. Preference will be given to those candidates with strong backgrounds in the maritime and transportation fields;
Pedagogical versatility with demonstrated ability in the use of teaching techniques that ensure both student engagement and active learning;
Strong communication skills;
Strong motivation to participate in new and growing degree programs, and to undertake the commitments necessary to make this growth a reality;
Strong commitment to distance education and a commitment to develop on-line and hybrid classes;
Commitment to engage in course design, instruction, pedagogy, and scholarship on issues relevant to global maritime supply chains, logistics, trade, finance, and economic policy.
SALARY COMPENSATION: Salary is commensurate with the education and experience of the individual.
LOCATION: The California Maritime Academy, a specialized campus of the California State University (CSU), offers undergraduate degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering Technology, Facilities Engineering Technology, Marine Transportation, Business Administration, and Global Studies & Maritime Affairs. The campus is located in Vallejo, 30 miles northeast of San Francisco.
