Basic Function:
Reporting to the New Business Unit President, this job position will manage multiple functions and groups, internal and external, for the design, development, and manufacturing bring up of new web connected consumer electronics products. Functions and groups include: Industrial Design, Hardware Design, Server/Web Services Software Design, Client User Interface Design, Third Party Content, Applications, and Services Integration, IT Collocation facilities, Manufacturing Operations.

The Director will be responsible for all aspects of the Business units Product Design, Development, and Manufacturing bring up activities. These will include the structuring and operation of the product engineering function utilizing internal and external resources as a cohesive unit; the conceptualization and day-to-day management of simultaneous project activities; delivering high volume manufactured designs to agreed specifications within time and budget constraints, and the fostering of innovative solutions to meet customer needs.

· Participate and contribute to the business and technology strategy as directed by the President.
· Create and manage group operating budgets.
· Set team goals and milestones and achieve them.
· Establish technology partner/supplier relationships and manage their successful integration into the product effort as appropriate.
· Establish manufacturing partner relationship and manage the successful production bring up of new products.
· Hire and manage external and internal teams covering Industrial Design, Hardware Design & Engineering, and Software Design & Engineering, to deliver products to market on time and within budget.
· Provide Leadership to inspire team excellence in delivering compelling products to market.
· Identify and Protect Business Units Intellectual Property and Business interests.
· Provide reports and presentations as required.


Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a proven record that fulfills the majority of these requirements:

* Minimum BS in engineering; MS in engineering strongly preferred
* 10+ years of industry product engineering experience, with at least 5 years in a management position
* Competent in electronic hardware and software design.
* Strong and current experience in web services and consumer electronics technology
* Proven ability to lead and manage people with diverse, simultaneous projects of varying complexities
* Record of achieving objectives; successful project completion, within budget and time frame
* Demonstrated peripheral vision; designing for specific needs, but with wider applications in mind

Excellent written and communications skills able to operate at all levels of the company
