Position Summary:
Manager of MarCom Talent and Rights’ Management is responsible for estimating, negotiating, hiring, tracking all advertising and marcom talent used by Clorox (outside of our Agency talent hires), as well as stock footage and music licensing not covered by Creative Services. The manager is also responsible for tracking rights’ management and insuring compliance in conjunction with Clorox Legal, and escalating to outside counsel where appropriate. Must have both Broadcast Business Affairs and Production Management experience. Anticipate involvement in ~300 projects this year, with 25% growth rate next year Major Responsibilities:
- Assures that all talent is hired and used in accordance with the specific contracts and requirements to which Clorox is a signatory; assigns the proper union talent contract for the project; provides estimates of talent expenses for all work prior to hiring talent; tracks all talent payments and due datess
- Reviews and tracks rights’ management, in conjunction with Clorox Legal and Regulatory (and Agency, if Agency is trafficking the work), insuring compliance; clears talent and rights’ material for both original and re-packaged work. Escalates to outside counsel where appropriate
- Negotiates Celebrity contracts and music contracts (Master Recording rights, sync rights, publisher’s rights); tracks all music royalty payments from ASCAP and BMI, both to musicians and to Clorox as owner of the music; negotiates talent / music when necessary to re-run a spot which has been released from contract
- Develop business knowledge of talent and rights issues throughout the organization, through seminars and coaching
- Backup Production Mgmt. to Sr. Mgr. to handle increased scope of smaller projects
Required Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Expertise and knowledge of SAG, AFTRA and AFM contracts and payment principles. Fluent in rights’ issues of clearances, moral and IP rights and claims’ support. Knowledgeable in TV, Radio, Print and IM production processes. Flexible and adaptable. Work independently and with teams. Strong thought and people leadership. Both internal and external customer oriented
Minimum Education
BA/BS degree from a college or university with practical experience in broadcast business affairs (generally through an Advertising Agency or union Payroll Company)
Minimum Experience
10-15 years in Broadcast Business Affairs at an Advertising Agency or equivalent |
