Job Summary

Reporting to the Vice President of Corporate Marketing, the Senior Director of Global Brand Marketing is charged with providing the strategic guidance and leadership to build the Dolby brand and develop brand marketing plans that strengthen Dolby’s position in the market, build demand and brand equity for Dolby technologies, and achieve Dolby’s business and marketing objectives. As the chief steward of the brand, it is the responsibility of this position to align the brand marketing vision with corporate priorities, business realities and channel sensitivities. This person will be directly accountable for:

Global Brand Strategy: Driving a disciplined, business-driven approach to branding that leads to a manageable & sustainable brand roadmap. This includes positioning, differentiation and oversight of the corporate brand, technology brands, sub-brands and features that comprise the Dolby portfolio. In developing the strategy for effective brand management, this role devises and implements methods to drive relevance and maximize brand leverage in support of the business. In addition, this person will champion the corporate brand culture and ensure global viability of Dolby’s brand strategies.

Demand & Awareness Generation: Developing sustainable campaign strategies to meet Dolby’s demand & awareness generation goals and help cultivate strong consumer and customer relationships. This includes defining, activating and measuring the effectiveness of corporate and product campaigns designed to drive growth, preference and demand for Dolby & our technologies. Efficiently manage mix of traditional and non-traditional media, tailoring campaign activities to successfully target and connect with key audiences.

Integrated Marketing Planning: Provide the thought leadership necessary to plan and develop comprehensive integrated marketing programs that promote and differentiate Dolby and our technologies. Gain better visibility and control over the entire process by leading a global, cross-segment planning effort to determine the optimal combination of resources to achieve ROI against marketing priorities. Collaborate with key internal stakeholders to evolve and streamline launch processes, develop repeatable best practices and enhance communications clarity, constancy and impact across channels and audiences.

Market Research: Oversee the prioritization and execution of primary and secondary market research and data analysis for use by CMG, segments, sales, executives and other key stakeholders. Research scope may include: brand tracking & health, target audience segmentation, future needs finding, market opportunity analysis, value proposition validation, marketing effectiveness, consumer/industry insights and competitive analysis.

Job Functions



  • Develop a detailed, objective understanding of Dolby’s business, the markets in which we operate, our customers and segment/corporate short-term and long-term business objectives and challenges.

  • Work closely with other members of the marketing staff to define the global Dolby experience for internal and external audiences.

  • Collaborate to deliver breakthrough global marketing programs & strategies that generate a competitive advantage for Dolby & our customers.

  • Act as the sounding board for strategic marketing issues and make ongoing contributions to the body of knowledge of the CMG organization

Brand Strategy and Management



  • Provide unified strategic direction for brand portfolio management & set relative branding priorities.

  • Define and manage all aspects of the Dolby brand including the corporate story, positioning and personality. Direct product naming, positioning, differentiation and portfolio alignment.

  • Oversee development of brand roadmaps and Dolby’s brand development strategy. Align and manage the brand architecture evolution with business objectives and market needs.




Demand Generation



  • Lead the planning & execution of integrated marketing programs that support: key design wins and revenue growth; Dolby’s Product and Technology pipeline; and Dolby’s market growth objectives.

  • Develop campaign strategies to broaden the scope of corporate & segment marketing, drive one voice across all communication vehicles & help our audiences understand/participate in Dolby’s vision.

  • Define and oversee Dolby’s media strategy including timing, investment levels, scope and composition of media mix by audience, segment and channel.

  • Develop corporate campaigns. Evaluate new media/marketing opportunities and make appropriate recommendations to corporate, product and geo marketing directors.

  • Manage the agency search & selection process




Integrated Marketing Planning



  • Supervise a cross-segment, global marketing planning process. Ensure that plans include clear and measurable criteria for prioritization, resource allocation, ROI and success metrics.

  • Facilitate cross-segment prioritization across CE, PC, Broadcast, Cinema and Gaming. Identify synergies to drive efficiency, cost-effective implementation, collective impact and overall “stickiness” of marketing activities.

  • Recommend the best use/combination of resources and vehicles to maximize ROI of Dolby’s marketing budget including events, promotional materials, internet marketing, product and corporate marketing, advertising, sponsorships, partner marketing, traditional and non-traditional media, etc. Manage annual media planning and negotiation process for all brands and segments.

  • Oversee the evolution of the global launch process for all new products and brands, establishing launch objectives, mapping them to marketing mix and executing integrated launch marketing plans.




Market Research



  • Direct primary, secondary & subscription-based research planning, prioritization, design & management company-wide.

  • Ensure accuracy of analysis and quality of insights/data provided to inform business strategy, marketing planning and future product development/market entry.




Other Responsibilities

Organization Management



  • Develop the skills of a strong team of successful brand managers and marketing professionals

  • Define departmental objectives, oversee day-to-day operations, direct workflow, measure performance, and manage resources for maximum ROI.

  • Build a team of brand champions & integrated marketing experts who evangelize the brand internally and externally.

  • Oversee the execution of tasks necessary to complete performance objectives.




Operational Excellence



  • In conjunction with the other members of the Corporate Marketing staff, support the operation of a best-in-class global corporate marketing organization and drive the alignment of business strategy with internal and outbound communications strategies.

  • Develop and oversee methodologies, tools and processes across all Dolby businesses to help us offer the best solutions and approaches around marketing.

  • Create standards and training to drive greater consistency, efficiency and effectiveness within the organization and across Dolby.

  • Be accountable for high-quality, timely, on-budge execution across a wide range of projects.




Skills and Education



  • Passionate, driven, and motivated to create value through personal impact on the business and collaboration with others.

  • A traditional foundation in branding and marketing principles coupled with at least 10 years of significant brand and marketing management experience, including successful development, launch and promotion of products, brands and/or services.

  • Direct accountability for planning and managing marketing programs that integrate a broad cross-section of communication vehicles and channels (Web, print, A/V, events, etc.).

  • Hands-on experience managing a portfolio of brands across multiple lines of business.

  • Hands-on experience selecting an advertising agency.

  • Hands-on experience managing a multi-million dollar campaign of mixed media.

  • Highly experienced in understanding and acting on consumer, industry and market insights.

  • A results-oriented track record in the creation of successful marketing programs, campaigns and promotions that have driven market results for well-regarded, global, consumer-facing companies.

  • Adept at quickly grasping and simplifying technical material and concepts.

  • Extraordinary collaborative and consensus building capabilities. Able to galvanize people to execute and to influence across all levels and functions of an organization.

  • Ability to work with limited resources and ensure proper and timely execution.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Adept at public speaking in front of large audiences, executive management, and customers.

  • Significant experience with ingredient marketing a plus.

  • MBA preferred
