Job Responsibilities:
HarperOne, a division of HarperCollins Publishers, is looking for a Creative Art Director to be responsible for creating new jacket concepts for hardcover, paperback, frontlist and backlist titles. The ideal candidate will manage deadlines and maintain open communication channels with members of the editorial, marketing, managing editorial and production teams to maintain publication schedules. The Creative Director will be up-to-date on industry trends and develop a thorough knowledge of how HarperOne’s categories (religion, spirituality, personal growth, etc.) are visually represented in the marketplace today. Responsibilities will also include contributing to all aspects of visual imaging and preparing book covers/jackets for approval, designing and creating jacket materials for printing, checking color proofs, and supervising every detail of the process to ensure accuracy and that deadlines are met. Candidates must be able to coordinate long-range planning on seasonal projects to meet sales and production deadlines. In this role, the candidate will design a portion of the jackets but will need to hire and supervise freelancers for the rest of the covers.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have at least 8 years of experience in Cover/Jacket Book Design and/or relevant work experience. The candidate must be highly proficient with InDesign, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator on a Macintosh Computer. Knowledge of typography, graphic design, book manufacturing, printing, and production is a must, as is excellent written and oral communication skills. In this role, the candidate must be highly detail oriented and able to set priorities under pressure.
