Summary:   

 

Ask.com is looking for experienced web application engineers interested  in supporting the next generation answers platform. Be a part of a team taking search to the next level by harnessing the powers of structured data, web extraction technologies and community-driven content.    We are looking for smart, enthusiastic software engineers who have a passion for both client and server-side development.  This person will join a pivotal team responsible for the application platform that supports the Ask.com family of websites. Work closely with designers and other engineers to build new, innovative features using the latest in internet technologies.

 

Responsibilities include (but not limited to) the following

• Design and develop cutting-edge features utilizing Java, XML, HTML, JavaScript, AJAX, and CSS

• Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code

• Improve the current Ask.com front-end platform for performance, scalability, and maintainability

• Coordinate

• Work closely with a first-class product team prototyping next-generation web products

• Work in tandem with engineers in other teams to define APIs for restful data services

• Keep up to date with new web technologies

•  

 

 

Technical Skills and Experience

Java, JSP, OOP, XML – 5  yrs

• JavaScript, CSS, AJAX, HTML, DHTML   - 5 yrs

• Linux/Apache – 3 years

• Experience with community-driven web sites – a big plus

• MySql experience – a plus

• PYTHON, PERL – a plus

• Linux/Apache – a plus

• Cross-browser/optimization  expertise

• Preference for agile work environments

• Excellent written and verbal communications skills at the business and technical level

• Strong work ethic, commitment and team work

 

 

Location:  Oakland, CA (near BART station downtown Oakland)
