We're looking to fill a key position in our organization. This person must be a bit of a hybrid; they must have solid operations experience (as a Sr. adminstrator in one of the systems, storage, networking, applications, etc), and well as spent considerable time in an engineering organization supporting the needs of the hard-pressed engineering group while still effectively communicating the goals/needs of the operations organization. Years of project management experience could not hurt. Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the day-to-day communcation between operations and engineering teams.
- Responsible for project management of key engineering deliverables (like new environments). Must have knowledge to effectively manage senior technical resources.
- Expected to contribute technically (at a deep level) and architectural (at a high level) to given projects.
- Configure and tune system and network parameters for optimum performance.
- Help develop tools to build and deply systems.
- Ensure delivery commitments are met.
- Write comprehensive documentation.
Requirements:
10+ years as a Unix/Linux, storage, networking, or applications adminstrator
5+ years as a Sr. administrator (will need to answer deep questions about whichever group you focused in)
2+ years as Project/Manager/Tech Lead, with project/task responsibility for at least two administrators
Proven record of working with engineers to meet goals of operations and engineering teams.
Some experience in Unix/Linux systems administration, MTAs, web servers, load balancers, Veritas Cluster Server (VCS), storage (EMC, Brocade, NetApp), network and host security, and relevant protocols (SMTP, HTTP, SSL, DNS, NFS).
Senior level programming/scripting in at least two languages (one any kind of shell; the other a higher-level language).
Solid grasp of TCP/IP networking fundamentals.
Multiple years of experience in fast-paced high-availability production environments (e.g. ISPs, ASPs, SaaS, etc.) with an emphasis on remote "lights-out" management of systems. A sense of urgency (but not panic) is key.
Outstanding troubleshooting ability.
Excellent verbal, written, and customer service skills.
Must be willing/able to pass a technical screening
