Description
The Director of Applications Engineering at PGP is a technical and management role whose primary function is to lead a highly effective technical team of Engineering Managers and Software Engineers. This position is responsible for creating, enhancing, and perfecting the PGP Application products for the world’s largest global enterprises and organizations. This individual is accountable for leading the interaction with the Product Management, Marketing, Sales/Field and Support organizations to ensure that our products meet the needs of our world-class customers and partners. This individual must have a complete customer orientation as well as deep technical knowledge across the PGP product set and deployment domains.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Driving the technical direction of the PGP application products and services. This includes the PGP Desktop, WDE, Portable and Messaging offerings.
- Building, motivating and managing one or more teams of highly technical senior developers across multiple locations.
- Driving the cross-product capability engineering requirements into the various product teams who must deliver supporting functionality.
- Interacting with customers and understanding their needs and solving them through engineering the product.
- Interacting with UI design, documentation, training development, QA and other engineering teams to understand and manage dependencies and requirements
- Proactively and effectively engaging with Sales, Support, Marketing, Business Development and other parts of the company to ensure the product offering meets their needs
- Managing schedule and project plans to successful completion
- Ensuring that the deliverables from his/her team are internationalized and ready to be localized across a variety of languages and cultures
- Delivering market differentiating capabilities that will separate PGP from the competition as well create compelling upsell/cross-sell opportunities
- Increasing customer satisfaction, productivity and efficiencies through supportability initiatives
REQUIREMENTS:
- At least 7 + years’ experience as an engineering manager or director at a commerce enterprise software company.
- A natural technical leader with strong communication skills and the ability to lead through influence.
- Strong technical experience to drive the decision making process with the team(s) when necessary
- Experienced at designing and developing high quality, high performance, scalable, reliable distributed multi-tiered web applications.
- Solid and intuitive understanding of engineering process and organizational collaboration
- Team player (responsible for commitments/schedules, resourceful, and respectful of peers and management) with excellent organizational skills
- Customer-focused product leader who puts the customers’ needs first and foremost
- Straightforward and upfront conflict resolution style
- Self-starter and results focused individual with the ability to motivate independently operating teams
- Results-oriented individual with a proven track record of producing high quality enterprise software against plans and schedules that are being met consistently
- B.S. in Computer Science or other relevant technical field, advanced degree highly desirable
HIGHLY DESIRED EXPERIENCE IN ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING AREAS:
- Experience in messaging, content encryption/security and policy management/compliance is highly applicable. Specific backgrounds in key/certificate management, data storage, and network/firewall experience preferred.
- Previous experience joining an established team withcommercially successful products in place.
- Familiarity and experience with iterative development process, and insights into how to affect technology and feature changes in the context of a rapid release cycle.
- Experience in both small and large companies.
- Familiarity with data center infrastructure components and content delivery networks as methods to further enhance performance, scalability, reliability, and cost-effective operations.
