Company Name: Adchemy
Job Title: UI Principle Engineer/Architect, Platform Engineer
Location: Redwood City, CA
Profession: Technology Management

Job Description:

Adchemy is a high growth, pre-IPO company that is revolutionizing the world of online customer acquisition. We research and implement algorithmic and mathematical approaches to the process of targeting, engaging and qualifying prospective buyers on the Web. Founded in November 2004 by Murthy Nukala in conjunction with Dr. Rajeev Motwani (the Stanford professor who co-authored the PageRank paper that led to Google’s founding), Adchemy now employs over 95 professionals and has a revenue run rate of several millions of dollars per month.

Adchemy seeks a technical leader for UI frameworks in our Platform group. This individual will help us expand and componentize our existing Flex and AJAX user interface into a consolidated, easy to extend and maintain tool set for developing Digital Marketing applications. This requires substantial experience in the design and construction both of user interface on the client side and of the services – validation, etc - that support it.

The Platform Engineering Group is focused on developing solutions that maximize effectiveness of online customer acquisition campaigns. Savvy marketers track the ROI of their campaigns and strive to improve performance because conversion has a double-positive impact on customer acquisition. It both increases the ROI of existing campaigns and additionally enables the marketer to invest in media that previously wasn't economically viable. We provide our customers the ability to automatically determine the best-performing landing pages, not just one, continuously test new attributes, uniquely perform in sparse data environments, and optimize landing pages based on downstream customer value data.

The Adchemy difference

  • We take innovation seriously. More than half of our employees are software engineers, research scientists, and product managers.
  • In addition to a full benefits package, our employees enjoy tuition reimbursement, fitness club reimbursement, and aggressive referral bonuses.
  • We have bona fide research team of PhDs with relevant industry experience.

Job responsibilities – specific actions from technical standpoint and specific skills

  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to identify software solutions that achieve business value with the appropriate balance of features, schedule and cost -- solve the right problem the right way.
  • Deliver on-time, quality software that satisfies the functional and non-functional requirements of all project stakeholders. Produce business value at an exceptional pace, with little waste and high quality.
  • Work closely with User Experience Designer and relentlessly focus on creating a user-friendly Customer Experience.
  • Work in conjunction with teammates to do detailed planning and display expertise in making decisions within the context of a broader vision (both from a product and technical perspective).
  • Create well-crafted code proficiently, meaning code that is simple, extensible, optimized and robust. Quickly progress from concept to prototype to scalable, highly available product while maintaining focus on visible, tangible customer value.
  • Act as practitioner and proponent of Agile methods including test driven development, pair programming, short iterations, and continuous integration.
  • Responsible for the full SDLC: design, code, document, review/assess, test, deploy and support. Reflect one's knowledge of these areas in one's programming practices.
  • Provide technical leadership and display a passion for software development. Actively find ways to improve software (evaluate and incorporate new libraries, tools and technologies; code reviews; refactoring; testing; etc.). Strive to be the best and elevate the performance of teammates.
  • Responsible for UI Architecture and design. Lead the team by example, define coding standards, implement best practices, and assure that all members of the team are working efficiently and effectively to satisfy project stakeholders. Communicate effectively with all stakeholders. Identify risks and issues that are likely to adversely effect project success and escalate before they do.

Qualifications

  • Extensive web development knowledge and experience developing customer-facing web applications and the frameworks that support them.
  • Proficient in developing JavaScript and HTML/CSS along with insuring cross-browser compatibility.
  • Proficient in Adobe Flex.
  • Thorough understanding of Computer Science fundamentals (object oriented programming, abstract data types, computational complexity)
  • Proven ability to work on concurrent assignments with different priorities
  • In-depth expertise with all facets of software development: customer interaction, requirements gathering and analysis, prototyping and design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance
  • Some experience using Java as a development language, familiarity with Hibernate and Spring
  • 7+ years with Unix as development and production environment
  • 7+ years providing technical leadership to various levels of engineers: junior to senior to subject-matter-expert engineers (ie they know more than you ever will)
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science or equivalent and 8+ years software development experience
